STAR TREK: INTO DARKNESS MOVIE REVIEW

Following an attack on Earth, the U.S.S. Enterprise is tasked with leading a manhunt to bring the terrorist responsible to justice.

I loved the J.J Abrams 2009 Star Trek film, it brought the franchise back and it got a lot of new fans whether it tried to or not and Into Darkness is the one where fans might just accept a little more easily. I will say that it is the best film out yet and that this movie is really different from the first.

I will say straight away that I really enjoyed this movie, if not loved it. It keeps the same pace of the first one, and it’s amazing to see these characters back while feeling they never really left.

As always Abrams surprises us by how different and brilliant this movie is. It has elements from the original but with a new twisted touch and for me it really worked. Into Darkness has depth and a really fast pace where every scene matters.

For me what always worked with these films is just how they aren't good Star Trek films but good films in general. I was on board as soon as the film started because I know that just seeing these characters interact is going to be awesome. This is this year's Dark Knight in my opinion ( I know Man of Steel is coming out) some scenes were so unexpectedly emotional and they get better as you think about them.

The whole cast is just so good, all these people together have such great chemistry, Simmon Pegg kills it as Scotty, Zachary Quinto was awesome as Spock and Chris Pine isamazing again.Benedict Cumberbatch is the villain John Harrison and I loved him in the movie. He was badass, the voice really worked for that character and he is one of the strong points. I left the movie thinking his plan didn’t have to be THAT complicated but neither did The Joker’s, Bane’s, Loki’s or any other villain really these days

The action sequences were really entertaining too, the opening scene was cool, some really good special effects and lines. You will get to see the lens flare going on which I think makes it look so clean and futuristic. Special effects were great, lens flares are still there but the movie looks so good i think if you hate those you will get past those.

The movie was marketed and it showed way too much, some of the best lines by Benedict Cumberbatch are in the trailer, that being said he was really good in this movie and brought something new to the series as I feel that the villain in the 2009 blockbuster was a bit underdeveloped and Abrams just went "Fine, get Cumberbatch". He was amazing in this movie, probably the strongest spot.

On the downside is simply the fact that Star Trek fans may not be very pleased with this film and I totally understand that. If you didin't like the first one they push the things people don't like further. If you loved the first you will still like the film for sure, but if you didin't Into Darkness won't win you over.

The first Star Trek really focused on the relashionship between Kirk and Spock, this movie does that again a bit and it's a bit repetitive which if you think about it, Into Darkness feels a bit repetitive, but i loved it because it still honors the other Trek films.

If you liked the first you might just love this and i'll understand if you do.

OVERALL
"Star Trek: Into Darkness is loyal sequel to it's predecessor and although it's not "The Empire Strikes Back" it's pretty damn good."
8.5/10 (Great)
