This is a full spoiler review on the CW show Arrow, if you want my thoughts on the show/season without spoilers click here.
Arrow season one finally came to an end, and unexpectedly
blew every single person watching it out of their seats.
This season focused mainly on Oliver finding out what his
mom is hiding, which turns out to be the Undertaking. Now the Undertaking turns
out to be a plan that Tommy’s father (Malcolm) created to destroy The Glades.
Firstly I thought that this season finally would just be
Oliver fighting Malcolm, defeating him stopping the device and that Tommy would
avenge his father by becoming the new “Black Archer”. I am glad that it did not
happen and that the season finale was awesome from the beginning.
It starts off Oliver is having a flashback of his father’s
death like in the Pilot, he shoots himself due to the food running out in the
emergency boat and Malcolm wakes him up and there’s awesome dialogue going on
and you feel the tension rising, it doesn’t get any better than that.
Then Oliver escapes, he has a moment with Diggle and
Felicity to say that Malcolm is planning The Undertaking in the subway. I said
in my non spoiler review that Diggle was a character that in the pilot I thought
was a dead end but turned out to be just what the show needed and he is.
The highlights of the finale for me were when Tommy is
all Harry Osborn when the episode begins and the tension (again) between him
and Oliver is rising on dialogue, he even says “I wished you’d died on that
island” at a point. Oliver warns him about his dad, which he ignores and his
dad proves to be a dick when Moira tells the whole of the media when about The
Undertaking when Oliver confronts her and Malcolm smashes the table because he
was exposed and the tension is up there (3x).
By the way what happened to Moira? She got arrested then
we don’t see her as far as I remember, or maybe we do and I forgot which makes
me think they’ll just save that for Season 2 or just ignore it. I don’t really
care honestly.
Malcolm has another showdown with Oliver whom just before
forgave himself with Tommy (but not really) and the fight was cool but it was
getting old… until the end where Malcolm is beating Oliver and he remembers his
father saying survive and finally learns what he’s fighting for; his family and
shoves an arrow which he picked up into Malcolm’s chest.
Detective Lance was trying to deactivate the device which
would trigger the destruction of the Glades, he calls Laurel and they have a
sad moment which kind of gets the tension (4x) up, but he fixes it. It turns
out to be useless since Malcolm had a second device and it all goes to hell.
Meanwhile, Thea warned Roy of what would happen and he
says he has to help the people escape, which is cool because throughout the
season his meeting with the vigilante changed him. He is so going to be a sidekick
in Season 2 it’s ridiculous.
Laurel gets trapped in the office where she works, Tommy
goes and rescues her they try to run for it but one of the biggest moments in
the CW this year happens and Tommy does not make it. Oliver arrives to find him
dying meanwhile Lance stops Laurel from going in and she’s screaming “I love
him!” which is her best performance yet. Anyways, Oliver goes in finds that
Tommy has been stabbed in the chest, they reconcile and Oliver lies to him
about not killing his father which I love because that’s the best thing Oliver
ever did. Then Oliver bursts and Stephen Ammel just proved to me why he’s on
the show, he starts saying he should have died for Laurel and screaming “Open
you eyes Tommy! Tommy!” and we have a final shot of the city going KABOOM and
nut’s just before the title card comes in and I tear up.
This season finale just proved that just because a show
is on the CW doesn’t mean it can’t be as good as The Walking Dead.
The finale is definitely the best episode yet, and sum it
up;
“Arrow’s finale not only brought the tension and dialogue
to another level of the show, it had the best performances and delivered the
best episode of Arrow yet.”
9.3/10 (Amazing)
