IN PACIFIC RIM, as a war between humankind and monstrous sea creatures wages on, a former pilot and a trainee are paired up to drive a seemingly obsolete special weapon in a desperate effort to save the world from the apocalypse.
I was not really exited for Pacific Rim, i hoped it would be good because i think Guillermo Del Toro is a grat director and he's done a few good things before.
Pacific Rim has a really absurd plot for a serious movie, there's a whole where monsters start coming out from one by one and we build robots to stop them. I thought that was an absurd but when you go in the theater IMAX and you experience these great fights, it's a lot of fun.
All the fights were really well made, the robots seemed gigantic and i was surprised to understand everything that was happening in terms of action; usually movies like this have this untracable action where you can't figure out what's happening but Pacific Rim nailed it for me.
The main character in the movie is really vague, he is a bit generic and you have no reason to root for him apart from the fact that you should, however he was still okay and honestly, i cared more about the big-ass robots killing each other than the dude piloting them.
Acting is not really the point of this movie, you won't come out thinking "What a great performance!", this is a movie that isn't exactly Inception but you can go in the theater and like. It's mindless fun. the screenplay for this movie must be so easy to do that a four year old can do it.
Idris Elba was a bad-ass and Charlie Day is in the film as well as the John Diggles associate from The Dark knight Rises, what the hell is that about? These guys were basically saying big words really fast to make us think they are smart, they came out as pretty generic.
So overall
"Pacific Rim has average acting and dialogue, but it's beatifully looking and directed despite being mindless fun. Mindless fun at it's best."
7.5/10
