IS DEXTER'S FINAL SEASON A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT?

I am huge Dexter fan. Up to Season 6 i thought it was my favorite show on television. I couldn't wait until The Final Season of Dexter started and when it did i was really satisfied... for a while. Five episodes in the show still hadn't picked up, but that's fine, because Dexter takes six episodes to be amazing. Ten episodes in i wasn't interested in what was happening.

As i am writing this i haven't seen the finale. That's another review. But even if the finale is a masterpiece it won't make up for this final season to be as interesting as a random episode of CSI.

That led me to a question. This show had me amazed for 4 years. Interested for 6 and entertained for 7. Is this final season a huge disappointment?

We'll say it straight away. Yes, of course.

The main problem with this season is really the writing. We are introduced to many new characters which are really good in concept; Vogel, Zach and Hanna's back (who cares, right?). But they are so poorly written in some cases that we simply don't give a shit about them.

Let's take one of them for example : Zach.

I liked his character. I thought that the episodes Dexter was chasing him up, investigating were the most DEXTER episodes of the season. At first i loved how his character arc ended, but then he was forgotten.

Let's look at Vogel for a bit:

She was introduced in the first episode of the season, i was immediately interested. But then her big suspense is finished in the first episode. Her relationship with Dexter gets really weird to the point where i don't care if she's having a heart attack, i'd rather watch Harrison play with his toys.

Her character arc ended well but i couldn't give a damn about her once the suspense faded.

And the big twist of the season was badly thought out and executed.

Guess who's back? Not Shady. Hannah McKay! Yeaah, no.

I never liked her character. She was fine in the beginning. She got really annoying. I wanted her to be somehow the villain, she wasn't.

Where's the investigation gone to? Where's the one of cases, Dexter killing killers as a hobby and all the Dexterish things? Instead we get all these bad arcs with characters we don't care about?

The Sergeants Test was more interesting than Dexter and Deb's fight (after episode 2).

The Brain Surgeon storyline turned out terrible. I was excited to see what he would become after a point but it failed me.

Anyone noticed Dexter and Batista stopped being bros for a long time? Well, they brought that up at least. It makes up for it right. Kiiind of.

The new kid who plays Harrison is awesome though. There's that.

I used to be crazy about the next Dexter episode every week. Now all i think about is Breaking Bad and how it's going to end.

This season had nothing we hand't seen before, and when it did, the problem was fixed and by the end of the season it was like it never mattered.

7/10 (Good but not Great)

So what did you dislike about this season of Dexter?

*SPOILER UPDATE: After watching the Series Finale i have to say that i still did not care about it. I thought it ended well with Debras death but i would have loved to see a Dexter vs Saxon fight at the hospital. I would have loved it if the show ended with Dexter killing someone in exile but hey, that's just me. The Quinn and Batista letting Dexter go scene was cool. Oh yeah Breaking Bad was amazing.
