2013 was a year of big names. We had the debut of Superman on screen, a new attempt to make a solo X-Men movie and a new Iron Man movie.
Usually there is two films which are competing against each other to be the best and on is kind of forgotten.
I have to start by saying that i am extremely pleased with this year. It was truly a ride. Whatever movie wins it didn't beat the other ones by far.
So let's get started with the first movie which came out:
Iron Man 3 (2013)
Whatever your opinion is about this movie, you can't deny that it was big.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is pretty big and popular, when you give the favorite character a last chapter in a trilogy, it's gonna make money.
Iron Man 3 follows an anxiety filled Tony Stark trying to find balance between his life as Iron Man and as Tony as he is terrorized by the Mandarin.
I really liked this movie. I thought it was a lot of fun, the action was very pleasing and the humor didn't let us down.
The big problem here is that the movie tried to surprise everyone by thi big twist in it and it left a lot of fans disappointed. As a movie in general, it is great, but as a movie which represents the character of Iron Man and pukes on one of its coolest aspects, it ends up being less great than it is. Still great though.
The Wolverine (2013)
I love surprises.
Specially when one of them involve Wolverine fighting Ninjas.
It's pretty awesome.
Not only is this film awesome in most aspects, its very well directed.
Finally a Wolverine movie which holds true to the character, to the comics and doesn't disappoint the audience.
I loved this film from start to finish. It is one of the best X-Men movies and it's just a solid movie in general. Hugh Jackman was born to play this character and the setting in Japan which at first worried me, turned out to be really interesting.
Man of Steel (2013)
I stand by this movie. I thought it was a great addition to the DC Cinematic Universe and couldn't wait to see where it would lead to, now that i do know, i'm even more exited.
Man of Steel is a really well directed movie, it really is.
But Zack Snyder just wanted us to like it so much, he took away some of the things which could have made this movie absolutely spectacular and added some big explosions.
I like explosions. I really, really do. And, i like Man of Steel.
But every time i think about how much better it could have been i freak out.
If we spent more time getting to know characters, by the end of the movie i would have been in Movie Heaven.
But instead, the characters we care the most about die in the first 20 minutes.
It was still a good ride, with an amazing score, great casting choices and well directed though.
