MARVEL/DC - WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING AND WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN
A lot of stuff has been happening this year related to Marvel and DC this year and i really thought this would be a perfect time to post about it.
We live in a world where superhero movies are growing with The Avengers top at the box-office and the Dark Knight with oscars it is hard to disagree with that statement.
Sony Marvel update
Sony still owes the right to Spider-Man after the reasonably good reboot gave them that and guess what? There's more coming; The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is in post-production and TASM3 and 4 were announced.
This isn't a surprise, studious like cash and with The Amazing Spider-Man not being a part of The Marvel Cinematic Universe it makes perfect sense.
Earlier this week Andrew Garfield also posed a question "What if Spider-Man was gay?" My answer to this is simply "He isn't". If you change something like that it will piss off fans. It isn't because Spider-Man hates being gay, he isn't Mexican either. Why not make him a two-year old? We want an adaptation of a comic we like, create a gay superhero if you want one but you can't simply change that.
Fox Marvel update
X-Men First Class was a hit and a good one. The one good X-Men movie is getting a sequel, but not really. WIth time travel you will get the cast from the original X-Men movie and reuniting with stars Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy along with others from First Class.
This movie is going to be big and awesome and probably amazing since i do not think that Bryan Singer is going to reunite these great characters and make a mess. With an idea like that you have to have an amazing story.
Marvel update:
There are a LOT of things going on here:
Firstly The Incredible Hulk TV Show being directed by Guillermo Del Toro (yes, the guy who had those amazing action sequences in Pacific Rim). The whole thing needs a writer but i don't see why not make a movie. The Incredible Hulk WAS good. Edward Norton was great and i don't see why they didn't try to make it work. A Hulk franchise would be SO cool but instead we get a tv show. Hmmmm....
The Shield TV show looks awful to me by the trailer but i'm sure they'll nail it.
I love Marvel's idea of having a phase of movies, The Avengers, a phase of movies after those events, The Avengers 2, another final phase of movies, The Avengers 3.
I think that overall Marvel has been pretty organized and i have actually found test footage of Ant-Man on YouTube for you guys to see how awesome Ant-Man can be.
I don't know i Marvel is doing the right thing by going all "space" in Guardians of The Galaxy and i have low expectations for that film, i doubt that it will be one of my favorites but i hope it will be SOME good. As soon as Marvel turns all cartoony like it is in The Avengers comics i will lose atention.
DC update:
This article may trick you into thinking i am a Marvel guy, i'm not. I live in a world where i don't have to choose but my two favorite superhero movie come from a DC franchise directed by Mr.Nolan. The problem is : DC is a MESS.
Man of Steel just came up and as i tweeted earlier before the movie "Just connect it all up and we'll #KneelBeforeZod". It didn't apart from a few Easter Eggs.
I don't know if i want another Justice League but what i do know is that The Dark Knight Trilogy is amazing and you do not need a movie like Justice League to have shared worlds. You can have Gordon-Levitt appear in Man of Steel 2 or a news story on the Gotham hostages from The Dark Knight Rises and have the Green Lantern in a Wonder Woman movie (Not Ryan Reynolds) and the answer has been right in their faces: Arrow.
With a hero like The Green Arrow and a tv show like Arrow guest appearances not only would draw viewers from the show into DC movies, it would draw fans to watch Arrow. Marvel is doing two tv shows, use Queen into the movie. Hell, you wouldn't even need Batman. Spider-Man isn't in the Avengers but Iron Man is. Marvel made Iron man awesome, make The Green Arrow awesome.
Yes, i know, Arrow is on the CW but that can change, the budget can increase, whatever!
Stephen Ammel who plays Oliver Queen in the tv-show voiced him in the game Injustice: Gods Among Us.
What about Flash? Flash is awesome! Where is he? Where is his movie?!
And for the record, Superman Returns had a Gotham reference so did Green Lantern (that was even gonna have Superman in it.) so did SMALLVILLE.
DC is wasting so many opportunities it drives me crazy. After you connect everything up, you can have them join each other on the last movie of the so-called franchise... :)
But if DC decides to use after-credit scenes and copy Marvel i will punch them where it hurts.
Connect it up, connect it up NOW.
