In Turbo a freak accident might just help an everyday garden snail achieve his biggest dream: winning the Indy 500.
Animations can be amazing. One every year is usually amazing. Usually it's from Pixar, this year it's from DreamWorks.
I wasn't expecting anything from Turbo so i came in blind. Dreamwork's animations are the best-looking animations there is but when it comes to being memorable and amazing it's usually Pixar who owns them.
Turbo isn't amazing, it's awesome. It isn't that deep kids movie that Toy Story 3 was, it is a fun animation with great voice actors (the main one being Ryan Reynolds) and with a ridiculous plot that is so fun you can enjoy. Of course, this is a kids movie so the plot can be over-the-top but it's so engagingly fun.
The movie focuses on a snail that gains superpowers and can run the Indy 500. I really don't care about racing, for me it's boring. But when you have snails with a chance of winning going super-fast and being all comedic and having me scream for them, it's tense.
I can honestly see this as a Pixar movie but i'm glad DreamWorks has the lead so far. Last year they had ParaNorman my second favorite animation (not second best, second FAVORITE) and this year Turbo is their big bet.
Ryan Reynolds fit perfectly as Turbo in fact everybody fit perfectly in their voices and did not take me away from the film apart from Samuel L. Jackson because i am such a huge fan and i had to buy him as that character.
The film looks great, it has some awesome shots as well and a hero for us to root for.
Turbo does play out the stereotypical "The last person who you would think is the hero is the hero you are going to root for" but i gave in. It's averagely original, superbly executed, sometimes funny and kid's will LOVE this movie.
I couldn't believe i would like this more than Monsters University and Despicable Me 2 (although i laughed more in that one).
So overall
"Turbo will engage and entertain everyone who watches it with a hero to root for and relate to, great voice actors and some really good sequences. Animation of the year... so far."
8/10 (Great)
So are you thinking about going to see Turbo now? Are you going to take your kids or wait for it on DVD (recommended)?
