DEXTER SEASON 8 EPISODES 1-6 REVIEW (SPOILERS)

This is a review for the first six episodes of Season 8 of Showtime's Dexter with SPOILERS.
In the final Season of Dexter we get to meet Evelyn Vogel, a psychiatrist who works with the minds of psychopaths. As Dexter and Debra get further apart and Vogel demonstrates suspicious interest on Dexter a new serial killer arrives on Miami.
I love Dexter. The great characters, the consuming plot. The tension and twists. I love it all. In fact, Dexter is my favorite television show with Breaking Bad.
When Season 8 was announced as the last i really did not want it to be. I wasn't a fan of Season 7 possibly because i couldn't connect with the character of Hannah, mainly how she was introduced. It stopped feeling like Dexter and the final episodes came out of nowhere.
This seasons beginning focuses on the death of LaGuerta. Then, it focuses on Evelyn Vogel and Dexter and Deb. Then it focuses on Dexter and Deb and the Brain Surgeon and Vogel. Then, it started to focus on Zach, this creepy kid. Now it'll focus on Hannah again?
I think that once the writers decided what they wanted to focus on the season the get's better. Now we have this kid, Zach, who killed his dad's lover, he's fascinated by blood like Dexter and he'll be Dexter's apprentice because Vogel (and now Dexter) sees potential in him. Wait, didn't Dexter already try to teach someone the code? Didn't it fail? They don't mention it.
The whole Zach storyline was really interesting and felt like a Dexter season. The whole Dexter and Deb episodes didn't.
The brain surgeon was a cheap way to bring back Dexter and Deb. Why couldn't you just have them together and then have Deb secretly be having this guilt, she tries to kill Dexter. You could then have focused more on Vogel, which was needed and have the Zach storyline play earlier. That way you could develop more his character, bring on Hannah earlier and have the season going as it is by Episode 4.
A lot of this season so far felt FILLER. The Brain Surgeon, Dexter and Deb.
The whole side plot of Batista wanting Quinn to take the Sergeant's test was fine, i actually got really into it. Maybe we could have had shown Quinn work hard to become Sergeant before he was turned down. I think that the plot will continue to be Batista and Quinn's relationship. I really hope Quinn and Jamie stay together because we'll have enough of that romance with Hannah.
Episodes 5 and 6 felt more like Dexter. A lot of the season could have been trimmed.
I liked the little Hannah twist in the end of Episode 6 i just wished they played it more seriously and not as calmly but that's just nitpicking.
So Overall:
This Season of Dexter takes WAY too long to decide what story-lines it will focus on. It introduced some great characters, had great acting as always. It was a little too late when it picked up and some of the early story-lines ended up nowhere, feeling like a lot could be trimmed but when it does pick up it goes back to being the Dexter you love.

7.8/10 (Good but not Great) -> Please note that this is just for the first 6 episodes, the overall score may change completely by the end of the season.
